Thank you Jubilee REACH for providing us the opportunity to be a part of the 2017 Summer Enrichment Camp! Over the course of four days, the kids worked hard on two very creative projects. The program was held at Lake Hills Elementary from August 7th to August 10th.
The first two days were spent creating and launching rockets! After stepping into the shoes of rocket scientists, the kids worked tirelessly to build their very own rockets keeping thrust, propulsion, and Newton's Third Law in mind. Then they inserted a fuel and an oxidizer, two critical components to rocket launching. Using alka-seltzer tablets and water, they launched their rockets high in the air! The second two days were a roller coaster- literally! The kids got into teams to work together on building their very own roller coasters. After learning about gravity, potential energy, kinetic energy, and mechanical engineering, they took teamwork to a whole new level. The finishing results including loops, free falls, water pools, tunnels, and some intense drops. They were ecstatic to see their marbles zooming down the track towards to end! EduSTEM is committed to bringing STEM opportunities to youth of all backgrounds, and the 2017 Summer Enrichment Camp helped us do exactly that! Be sure to check out the gallery for pictures from camp. We've finally reached summer! This school year marked the pilot year of EduSTEM's new workshop program at the Jubilee REACH headquarters. For 11 weeks, starting in March 2017, EduSTEM held morning workshops every Wednesday for the Lake Hills students.
We covered two units in depth through fun project-based workshops, space sciences and environmental science. The kids gained in various activities to better learn about the world around them through science. The first Wednesday, we created moon phases using Oreo's. However, the kids, ranging from 3rd to 5th grade, proved even more capable and creative! Another morning, they created their very own model of ocean pollution and presented their solutions to save the sea life affected. It was a great experience to spend our Wednesday mornings with such fantastic and brilliant children! EduSTEM's 2016-17 school year workshops were a blast and we can't wait to come back during the fall. Check out the gallery for workshop photos! |
