On January 15th, 2018 EduSTEM celebrated MLK Day with an all-day workshop to foster STEM inclusivity. With over 60 girls participating from 3rd through 5th grade, the event held at Interlake High School was a major success! The gals started the day off with 2 inspiring talks from women in STEM, most notably Grace Ostrom from Boeing and Lindsey Childers from foundry10 (a Seattle area educational nonprofit). The girls were then launched into a day full of STEM related activities, rotating through computer science, robotics, and lab science related projects. By the end of the day, the girls had come away coding their own Magic 8 Ball in Python, building a robot that followed a lit path, and solving the mystery of the stolen dogs with chromatography & blood sampling techniques!
Thank you to Disney & YSA, Interlake High School, our speakers, Mr. Larry Matthews, and our volunteers for helping us run such a fantastic event! We plan on holding more events for youth from a diverse range of backgrounds. Check out the pictures on our Facebook: EduSTEM Initiative. Cheers, Your EduSTEM Founders
